Open science collaboration at CERN
CERN’s Open Source Programme Office’s (OSPO) role is to provide support to the CERN community about open-source software and hardware, as a core component of open science, but also engage with interested external partners to use open science to drive scientific and technological progress.

MARCHESE: one AI technology, multiple applications
By combining hardware components such as radar, laser distance sensors and RGB cameras with dedicated software algorithms, MARCHESE supports rescue operations and emergency response in CERN’s LHC tunnel. MARCHESE is also suitable for healthcare applications and other situations where contactless monitoring is beneficial.

Medical imaging, radiotherapy, space dosimetry, material analysis. These are just a few of the many areas that have been impacted by advanced semiconductor chips developed in recent decades by the Medipix collaborations at CERN in conjunction with over 30 external research institutes.

CERN showcases projects with environmental applications
CERN researchers contribute to many projects that aim to find technological solutions to environmental problems, from fusion power to distributing renewable energy and developing clean aviation. These collaborations are all part of the CERN Innovation Programme for Environmental Applications.
